Sheldon

Across the weekend we took the awful decision to put Sheldon to sleep. Euthanasia is an extremely rare occurance at WCAWG, please know that it would never be done without investigating all possible options to improve his pitiful quality of life. All vets and specialists agreed that putting him through the multiple surgeries he would need to begin to improve his discomfort, was too risky. He would have been left almost completely blind, 3-legged and reliant on a remaining hind-leg which is itself malformed and needing a couple of complex surgeries which had poor chances of success. The chances of improving his life even for a short-while were poor, and the amount of pain and confusion he would endure along the way was too much. There is relief that he is no longer tormented by pain, but huge sadness that this lad has never known a happy, comfortable existence throughout his 5-year life. All of our efforts now go to his brother Paddington who will go on to live a comfortable life now that his eyes have been removed. There is work to do on his skin-healing and eye-recovery but already we know he is more comfortable now than he has ever been. We loved you so much Shelly.
